About us

Born at the world's most dynamic border

Mexico plays a leading role because it holds all three faces of migration: transit, origin and destination. Baja California, part of the Cali-Baja region, is home to one of the country's most important borders, and the US–Mexico corridor is among the busiest in the world.

As a result, family reunifications, home purchases by foreigners, binational business, retirement in Mexico and companies seeking foreign talent have all grown. H&H Consultants was founded to meet that need, specializing in Mexican immigration consulting and paperwork management.

Our consultants are professionals trained through years of experience in immigration matters, an added value that is hard to match.

FAQ

Answers to the most common questions

Accurate information is key when you plan to travel, move or hire in Mexico. Here are answers to the questions we hear most; for your specific case, book a consultation.

What documents do I need to travel to Mexico?

Under Article 37 of the Immigration Law, you must present a valid passport or identity and travel document at the port of entry and, when required, a valid visa. You may also enter with a resident, regional visitor, border worker or humanitarian visitor card.

Do I need a visa to visit Mexico?

It depends on your nationality, the purpose and the length of your trip. Citizens of countries with visa-waiver agreements, such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Australia, do not need a visa for stays of up to 180 days without paid activities; they only need the Multiple Immigration Form (FMM).

Are the FM3 and FM2 still issued?

Not under those names. Since the Immigration Law took effect in 2012, they were replaced by the temporary resident and permanent resident statuses.

What do I need to move to Mexico?

Either temporary residency (up to 4 years, with the option of a work permit) or permanent residency (indefinite). If you live abroad, you first obtain the visa at a consulate and then exchange it for your card at the INM within 30 days of arriving.

I want to hire a foreigner. What do I need?

Your company needs an employer registry certificate from the INM. With it, you can apply for a visa authorization through a job offer. If the foreigner already holds residency with work permission, the process may be simpler.

How do I obtain permanent residency?

The most common routes are: 4 continuous years as a temporary resident; family ties with a Mexican citizen or permanent resident; being a retiree or pensioner with sufficient income; 2 years as a temporary resident through marriage or partnership with a Mexican or permanent resident; or recognition as a refugee, asylee or beneficiary of complementary protection.

Which changes must I report to the INM as a resident?

Temporary and permanent residents must report changes of address, workplace, nationality, marital status and name within the legal deadline. Late notification results in a fine.

Can a student work in Mexico?

Yes. A temporary resident student can apply to the INM for a work permit, provided they meet the requirements for their level of studies.
